QUESTIONNAIRE FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
BACKGROUND
A: The Government's Rural Whte Paper of 2000 set out a challenging agenda ro revitalize the rural communities of England. Included in this very wide ranging commitment was one to give the people in the rural communities a bigger say in the development of their villagesin the future. Go to the DEFRA website for more information
A: Parish/Community plans give you an opportunity to get involved in planning in your village and its surrounding countryside. The plan is a document that tackles important issues that will influence your neighbourhood in the future. Anything from ensuring building projects fit in with the local character to supporting alternatives to private car use to improving the state of local parks and amenities. Essentially anything that impacts on how you live iin your village..
The development of the plan may be led by the town or parish council but must take into account the views of the whole community. Everyone should have a chance to contribute. In the case of Paulton this was done through the formation of a Steering Group made up of local resoidents who manage the finances and the outcomes of the project from start to finish.
The final plan will identify key facilities and services, set out the problems that need to be tackled and show how distinctive character and features can be conserved. It will also include an action plan for the area.
Q: How is the Community Plan Project Funded?
A: The main funding has come from Central Goovernment who use Community Action in the South West to manage grants of money for Village Plan projects. This sum is very small and so we have secured a small allocation from the Paulton Parish Council. The main portion of the budget is "in kinnd" donationof time and expertise by the volunteers on the Steering Group and others who are seconded for individual pieces of work (eg Artwork, Deliveries and Collecting Questionnaire, small print jobs etc).
